Sindh Announces Rs38 Billion Upgrade for Karachi Water & Drainage

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that the Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF) Program has now transformed into a large-scale social transformation movement across the province. According to Memon, verification for over two million applicants has been successfully completed, while 1.5 million bank accounts have already been opened to support transparent financial assistance. Meanwhile, construction work on another 650,000 houses is now entering its final stages, marking a major milestone in post-flood rehabilitation.
Memon further highlighted that the program has generated one million jobs in Sindh, helping revive livelihoods for thousands of flood-affected families. In addition, 900,000 women have received land ownership, a major step toward strengthening women’s economic empowerment and long-term family stability.
He also noted significant infrastructure development in Karachi, where the provincial government has allocated Rs38 billion for clean drinking water, drainage improvements, and other essential municipal upgrades. Funds are also being directed toward the K-4 water supply project, Hub water system, storm-water drainage enhancements, and KWSSIP-II, ensuring long-lasting improvements to urban infrastructure.
The minister added that the Sindh government continues to aggressively pursue its development agenda. A total of 293 new schemes have been approved, mainly focused on upgrading water supply, sanitation, and municipal services across rural and urban areas. To avoid delays and maintain momentum, the Chief Minister has instructed departments to ensure rapid fund releases and maintain strict oversight.

Memon said that progress on roads and connectivity projects remains steady. So far, the Chief Minister has reviewed 620 road projects, ensuring timely completion and quality standards. Landmark initiatives such as the Korangi Causeway Bridge and its associated underpasses are quickly moving toward completion. Simultaneously, rehabilitation work on over 970 kilometers of roads continues throughout Sindh to improve travel, trade, and accessibility.
He added that the government has also expanded the Electric Bike Scheme to support working women and female students, making mobility more affordable and safe. Similarly, Sindh has launched major renewable energy projects worth Rs25 billion, including progress under the Sindh Solar Energy Project, to increase clean, sustainable power generation.
